You may have noticed that while people are posting pictures of the jerseys they received from the Detroit Red Wings Equipment sale, that something looks a little off on some of the white ones.
If you reference pictures from the game, the patch was on the right of the player but you are seeing the patch on the opposite side of the jersey.
This is OK. Collectors are not moving patches, and these jerseys are not fakes. The Red Wings removed the patch after the game to continue to use the jersey for the rest of the season and re-affixed the patch back on for the sale.
As far as we know, this is consistent with every jersey that had a patch. No authenticity issues to worry about here.
The Detroit Red Wings are asking for donations or loans of historical items to be on display at their new arena.
Have your or a fellow collector friend ever donated or loaned an item to a team or organization such as the Hockey Hall of Fame? What did you donate/loan? How was your experience?
Recently we wrote an article that described different scenarios in which jersey availability can change due to special circumstances. This is one of those times.
The Detroit Red Wings Stadium Series jerseys were available at auction, however there were 5 jerseys not available at this auction due to other commitments of the NHL. Dylan Larkin was one of these jerseys, eliminating the possibility of a jersey only sale, as the team sold the remaining jersey in a package with other gear.
Due to these circumstances, we have been able to consign Dylan Larkin’s Stadium Series items:
- Helmet – Unavailable
- Practice Jersey – Unavailable
Dylan Larkin game worn memorabilia availability has been limited. This gives more collectors the opportunity to own pieces from his rookie year and of a special event.
As one would generally do before big end of the year sales, you start to plan out the items you REALLY want, then find out who else is going so you know your competition. It was a day like any other day until the email came through announcing the date of the Detroit Red Wings equipment sale.
Once I got that email, it was full steam ahead. I began contacting friends I know in the jersey hobby, trying to figure out who was going, what they wanted, what I wanted. I knew that some of the jerseys I wanted would be one of the most sought of the year. Gustav Nyquist.
I began talking to friends from out of town, knowing that I might be able to help them with something that they wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. They might return the favor later. Of course, at the top of most people’s list was Nyquist. I couldn’t make promises I couldn’t keep but I told them I would try to get them and if I was successful, figure the rest out later. Step 1 first, get stuff.
The Detroit Red Wings sale will be on May 31st. The doors open to the public at 11am and phone orders can begin at 1pm for people unable to make it to the event.
Season ticket holders will have access at 10am. There will only be 1 set of jerseys this year with a couple exceptions. Most of the playoff jerseys will be recycled.
The red set will come with the patches from Lidstrom night affixed to the jersey and will be priced higher than the white set.
When the Detroit Red Wings hosted Lidstrom’s number retirement night, we let you know to keep an eye on the NHL Auctions page for the warm-up jerseys to appear for auction. Now they are finally listed.
Up for auction are 2 kinds of jerseys. The first set is worn by the active players during warm-ups and autographed by both the player and Lidstrom. The second set are replica jerseys made for the alumni players in attendance and is signed by both the alumni member and Lidstrom.
Each jersey has the commemorative Lidstrom banner patch sewn on, indicated the date of the event.
On March 6th, 2014 the Detroit Red Wings will be raising a banner in to the rafters of Joe Louis Arena to commemorate the retirement of Nick Lidstrom’s jersey number. The Red Wings will be wearing a special patch for this game on their regular season jerseys which will then be removed afterward so the jerseys can be used for the rest of the year.
However, jersey collectors can still celebrate this special day because the Red Wings will be wearing special pre-game warm up jerseys. These special Lidstrom Jersey Retirement Night Warm-up jerseys will be auctioned off at a later date. We have heard that the foundation will be auctioning these jerseys off through auctions.nhl.com.
We will follow up on this story once these jerseys become available for bid.
