What Happens To The Jerseys Missing From Special Event Auctions?

s-l1600Naturally, they get destroyed.  Thanks to big money deals between the NHL and card companies like Upper Deck, if you were waiting to bid on your favorite players jersey at auction after the special event, such as the Stadium Series, if your player is one of the lucky 5 to be selected to fulfill “other commitments”, that jersey gets destroyed.

Taking a look at previous auctions for the Stadium Series last year, Chicago, Colorado, Detroit and Minnesota, the following players were omitted from the auctions:

Andrew Shaw, Chicago Blackhawks
Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks
Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks
Niklas Hjalmarsson, Chicago Blackhawks
Trevor van Riemsdyk, Chicago Blackhawks

Jared Spurgeon, Minnesota Wild
Nino Niederreiter, Minnesota Wild
Ryan Carter, Minnesota Wild
Thomas Vanek, Minnesota Wild
Zach Parise, Minnesota Wild

Erik Johnson, Colorado Avalanche
Francois Beauchemin, Colorado Avalanche
Nick Holden, Colorado Avalanche
Jarome Iginla, Colorado Avalanche
Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado Avalanche

Dylan Larkin, Detroit Red Wings
Justin Abdelkader, Detroit Red Wings
Luke Glendening, Detroit Red Wings

Group Events

Derek Christensen of Derek Christensen Reclaimed Creations is assisting in scheduling group events for the weekend.  So far, the events being planned are:

Friday Night: Whirlyball with collectors.  There are 2 locations that are being evaluated for Whirlyball.  One is near the hotel many collectors will be staying at.  The cost will be between $30-50 an hour depending on duration and head count.  If you would like to discuss this even, please visit the Expo Event Page or Contact Us.

Saturday Night: Collectors will be organizing ticket purchases through stubhub or other similar services to attend the Frozen Four Championship game at 8PM ET.  This has been determined the most effective way to obtain tickets at a reasonable rate.  Discussions for this event can also be had on the Expo Event Page.

Sunday Night: Derek Christensen is again helping to organize a group event at the Chicago Wolves game this evening.  Tickets are anticipated to be $10 for a great AHL game.  A head count will be necessary to organize ticket count. Again, you can discuss this even on the Expo Event Page or contact Derek.

Game Worn Radio: Wearing Jerseys, Chicago Expo, Jersey Count

Last night on Game Worn Radio, we opened up the banter to suggestions.  What resulted was a lengthy discussion on whether or not to wear your game worn jerseys.

Eventually we ended up talking about the Chicago Expo in April and the increase in special event jerseys among lower level teams.

Game Worn Radio Returns 2/20/17

For those that have been following Game Worn Radio or are interested in calling in to the show, we will be returning this Monday at 9PM ET after a couple weeks off due to scheduling conflicts.

This will be an open mic night, most likely with a decent amount of discussion about the upcoming expo in Chicago.  If you have any questions or comments about the expo, or there is something you would like discussed about the hobby, let us know!

Special Event Jerseys are Everywhere

These days, special event and warm-up jerseys are everywhere.  There are some teams that will wear 6 or more special event jerseys in a year, creating themed nights around the jerseys, while we see in the NHL, special warm-up jerseys worn by the teams for various causes.

What are some of your favorite and hated special even jerseys?
