Some of our hawk-eyed collectors have noticed something funny with the Stanley Cup Finals patches on the New York Rangers jerseys this year.
No, its not that they are on the shoulder. In 1994, the patches were placed on the shoulder as well, which you can see from this picture of Mark Messier hoisting the cup.
If you look closely, at the original pictures, you can see a shadow outline of the SCF patch. In this picture, we have circled the shadow in red.
It looks as if the patch was not centered on the jersey shoulder the first time they placed it so it had to be removed and reattached higher up on the shoulder. It even looks as if Krieder’s had to have extra material added to cover the glue.
It appears as if each player’s jersey has been affected but we cannot confirm that at this time. It has been noticed only on the blue jerseys as the white jersey designs have convenient guide lines for centering patches on the jersey.
On the plus side, it has been noted that the misplacement was evident on both game 3 and game 4 jerseys, which means there is a chance that a new jersey was not worn for each game. Collectors who will be ordering the Rangers blue SCF finals jerseys, please send in pictures when you get them!
Update: It appears as there is 1 set per round available. For perspective, Lundqvist’s SCF jersey will run you $25,000 while his previous round jerseys will run you $7,500. Keep in mind there still may be multiple sets per round as well as the listings indicate 2 white jerseys for Lundqvist for round 2.
Comparatively, Quick’s SCF jerseys sold for $10,000, noting that there are 2 sets of finals for Quick (a 2nd set for Lundqvist has not been determined yet).
