I recently had the opportunity to complete an email interview with VIncent. He is one of the collectors that I know is avidly into photomatching. We have worked together in the past to get some pieces matched with great success. This interview definitely helped me get to know him better which is why I love these interviews.
GameWorn: What do you do for a living?
Vincent Talavera-Tommasi: I am a 403b/401a pension consultant at TIAA-CREF and my clients are from The University of Michigan
GW: What is your favorite beer?
VTT: My favorite beer is Peroni from Italy
GW: What is your favorite team?
VTT: My favorite team is the NY Rangers with a close second to the Colorado Avalanche.
GW: Who is your favorite player?
VTT: My favorite player currently is JT Miller of the NY Rangers.. My all time favorite is Brian Leetch..
GW: When and how did you get started collecting?
VTT: I bought my first game worn jersey from Meigray in 2005.. It was a Martin Rucinsky NY Rangers road jersey, which I no longer own.. I started collecting “on ice” authentics from Gerry Cosby at Madison Square Garden in the early 1980’s. So my love for hockey jerseys goes back quite a ways
GW: What makes up the bulk of your collection?
VTT: The bulk of my game worn collection is of the NY Rangers.. My oldest is a 1985-86 Bob Brooke Road sweater with the diagonal New York on the front.. I also collect Colorado Avalanche game worn sweaters and have some special pieces from them as well.. I have a smattering of OHL AHL and NCAA sweaters of former and current NY Rangers players
GW: If money was no issue, what is the one jersey you would want?
VTT: I would buy a Mark Messier sweater from the 1990’s Rangers..
What is your favorite jersey in your collection?
I have 2 sweaters that are at the top.. My 2012-13 Chris Kreider rookie sweater that he scored his 1st regular season NHL goal on Marty Brodeur.. Also my 1989-90 Petr Klima Edmonton Oilers home jersey.. A big fan of Klima’s when I was in HS and college and it’s become a grail..
GW: What is your favorite thing about the hobby?
VTT: The comraderie among fellow reputable collectors, friendships I have made. Photo matching my jerseys is very fun as well..
GW: Do you go to or have you gone to any Expos/Shows?
VTT: I have been meaning to go to the MeiGray expo but I haven’t been able to get it on the books.. Hopefully next year..
GW: What would you like to see for the future of the hobby?
VTT: Less people trying to sell/auction bogus stuff as game worn on the Internet and better authentication measures across the hobby.. I would also like to see Steiner create a detailed population report for the NY Rangers sweaters and bring back set tags in the hem of the sweaters. Avid NYR collectors deserve this from Steiner..
