Collector Interview: Gareth Evans (lfcjari37)

One of the most interesting things about our hobby is how spread out we are among the globe.  There are hockey jersey collectors everywhere.  Coming out of New Zealand, meet Gareth Evans: What do you do for a living?
Gareth Evans: IT. Mainly maintenance and servicing of desktops/laptops/server etc.

GW: What is your favorite beer?
GE: Easy one this. I live in Taranaki, New Zealand and a local brewer makes an absolute nectar called Whisky Porter. Its like chocolate in a glass, fantastic stuff. You can find info on the brewery here :

GW: What is your favorite team?
GE: I follow 2 teams, the Sabres and Flames. I started following the Sabres because ive been a fan of the Bills since the late 80s and when I started watching hockey I needed a team so they were it. I follow the Flames also because I have family in Calgary and the only NHL games I have seen live were at the Saddledome.

GW: Who is your favorite player?
GE: Jaromir jagr. Its amazing he is still so good.

GW: When and how did you get started collecting?
GE: About 5 years ago I decided I should get a Sabres jersey finally. I bought a replica Vanek jersey, and then started down the road of buying Authentics. Of course it wasnt long before gamers became the aim. So from just 1 jersey to support my team Im now surrounded by them!

GW: What makes up the bulk of your collection?
GE: Flames and Sabres jerseys. I used to buy whatever took my fancy but have realized just buying anything doesnt work. So I now have a wall of Flames jerseys in my mancave and am working on a Sabres wall too.

GW: If money was no issue, what is the one jersey you would want?
GE: Jagr rookie Stanley Cup road jersey.

GW: What is your favorite jersey in your collection?
GE: This changes regularly! Living in NZ the exchange rate plus shipping means most jerseys are out of my financial range so I concentrate on more affordable ones. So with that in mind I was able to get my favourite Giordano Flames 12/13 road jersey in a Flames sale at a really good price. I hope he wins the Norris this year!

GW: What is your favorite thing about the hobby?
GE: Most people are very helpful and knowledgeable and are only too happy to help you pick up the jersey you want if they can.

GW: Do you go to or have you gone to any Expos/Shows?
GE: Unfortunately no and its highly unlikely living in NZ.

GW: What would you like to see for the future of the hobby?
GE: More teams making their jerseys available instead of selling them in auctions or just stockpiling them.
